Những cấu trúc câu cần tránh trong bài luận IELTS

Những cấu trúc câu dài, phức tạp như ‘Because of the fact that’ hay ‘Be of the opinion that’ không mang lại hiệu quả cho bài thi của bạn.

Bạn sẽ nghĩ sao nếu một người nước ngoài học tiếng Việt nói rằng “Bởi vì một thực tế rằng …” (Because of the fact that …)? Nếu gõ cấu trúc câu này trên Microsoft Word phiên bản tiếng Anh, vạch màu nâu sẽ hiện ra, nhắc nhở bạn đang mắc lỗi về sự rõ ràng và súc tích (Clarity and Conciseness).

Dưới đây là những kiểu diễn đạt dài dòng không giúp ích gì cho bạn trong phần thi IELTS Writing.

1. Because of the fact that

Ví dụ: Because of the fact that the student didn’t finish his homework, he failed his final exam.

Cách cải thiện: Because the student didn’t finish his homework, he failed his final exam.

2. Be of the opinion that

Ví dụ: I am strongly of the opinion that more public schools and hospitals should be built in this area.

Cách cải thiện: I (strongly) believe that more public schools and hospitals should be built in this area.

3. For the purpose of

Ví dụ: The government introduced the policy for the purpose of creating more jobs.

Cách cải thiện: The government introduced the policy (in order) to create more jobs.

4. It can be seen as a good idea

Ví dụ: It can be seen as a good idea for employees to share ideas frequently with each other.

Cách cải thiện: Employees should share ideas frequently with each other.

5. In a … manner/ way

Ví dụ: Employees in this company are required to work in a responsible manner.

Cách cải thiện: Employees in this company are required to work responsibly.

6. What I mean to say is that

Ví dụ: What I mean to say is that businesses should not harm the natural environment during their operations.

Cách cải thiện: Businesses should not harm the natural environment during their operations.

7. It can be easily seen/ It is clear from the graph that

Ví dụ: It can be easily seen from the graph that China will replace the USA as the world’s most powerful economy in less than 20 years.

Cách cải thiện: The graph shows that China will replace the USA as the world’s most powerful economy in less than 20 years.

8. Had the appearance of

Ví dụ: The business proposals had the appearance of having been neglected.

Cách cải thiện: The business proposals appeared to have been neglected.

9. By means of

Ví dụ: We travel by means of car.

Cách cải thiện: We travel by car. Thậm chí còn có cách tốt hơn là We drive.
